Dahl - Lentils

Ingredients

In your dahl kit you have:

Red or Yellow lentils

Whole spices - Panch phoran and Curry leaves

Powdered spices - Cumin and Tumeric

You will need the following ingredients:

1 tbs vegetable oil

1 tsp chopped garlic

Directions

Take out all the ingredients from your kit. Rinse the lentils till the water runs
clear.
Place lentils in a sauce pan and cover it with water an inch above the lentils.
Add the garlic and powdered spices to the dahl and give it a little stir.
Boil the lentils till they are very soft and start to disintegrate. Stir every 5
mins to make sure the lentils don't catch. If the water dries up, add a little
more to cover the lentils again. You know you are done when the lentils
look like a puree. Add salt to taste and turn the stove off.
In a small frying pan, add your oil and when it is hot, put in the whole
spices. When the spices start to splutter, pour the whole spices into your
lentils and stir. Serve with rice or eat as a soup. Please yourself.
Options:
1.Add chilli powder with the powerdered spices if you like a hot dahl.
2. Add a tsp tamarind paste to make it sour.
3. Add vegetables like potatoes and peas to make it a meal.
